Emulating Sega Saturn With SSF
Get SSF here: http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/saturn/ssf.html If you have problems with games lagging, freezing on FMV's, or the Emulator wont boot up at all and its not the SSE2 error, than try to find a different SSF version.
Step 1:First you must aquire the Sega Saturn Bios files. There are 3: Japanese, European, and United States. The Bios files should be unzipped. www.Google.com for those.
Step 2:Then you are gonna need 3 .dll files, wnaspi32.dll, msvcr70.dll, and msvcp70.dll. You must paste those under your SSF directory and you must paste those under C:\Windows\System32\.
Step 3:In order to run your Rom image your going to need Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools. I use Alcohol 120%. But Daemon is much better and more advanced. Once you have installed Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools, go to File, then Open. Open your image file. It should then appear on the right of the screen (with Alcohol 120%).
Then right click on the image on the right. Then mount on device.
http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/6518/alcohol1yc.jpg
If you have Daemon Tools, then right click the Daemon Tools Icon in your System Tray.(bottom right corner) Left click your Virtual Drive and open your image file like shown below:
http://img157.imageshack.us/img157/8229/daemontm2.png
Step 4:Now to configure your Bios. Open SSF it should give you an error message that looks like this:
http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/5179/untitled1af2.jpg
Now go to Option and where it says Bios, click Browse and enable your Bios file.
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/6326/saturnbiosec7.png
This will make SSF exit. Dont worry just open the program again.
Also make sure your CD-ROM drive is enabled to SCSIVAX like shown above.(Your drive might be named something else, just look and see through your mounting program.)
Also you must make sure in the Options that your Roms Region matches the Bios file your using. If you dont, when you boot the Game up it will put you back to the Saturn Dashboard and say that your disc is unsuitable for the system. So figure out what the Roms region is.(US,EUR,JAP) Make sure the Bios matches. Lastly, make sure where it says Area Code, that it matches like shown below.
http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/133/regionxi5.png
If your not sure what your Roms region it is, then just try matching up all 3 until one works.
The game will also say unsuitable for system if it doesn't work at all. I have compiled a Compatibility list here:
http://www.coolrom.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92
If all this is done and your image is mounted, when you start the program it should boot up to your rom.
For a boost in speed try going into the Options, then Program 2. The Dot Clock at Default will be at 2.00. So you can try upping it to 4.00. This could make certain games crash. If it does try lowering it to 3.00 or back to the Default.

For anyone getting "CD Tray Opened" message under SSF. You must have mounted the .bin file because the included .cue file did not work. You have to use the cue file.
For fixing .cue files, I will be using Dragon Force for Sega Saturn as an example. Which is available for download on this site. This should work for other games if they have similar errors.
There are 3 files:
Dragon Force.BIN
Dragon Force.cue
readme.html
If you try to load the .cue file with Daemon Tools, you would get an error. To fix this, follow these steps:
1) Right-click Dragon Force.cue and select edit or load Notepad and open the file from there.
2)The text inside the .cue file will appear (of course) as below:
FILE "DRAGON_FORCE.BIN" BINARY
TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
INDEX 01 00:00:00
TRACK 02 AUDIO
PREGAP 00:02:00
INDEX 01 62:33:42
The problem is that it is looking for a file called "Dragon_Force.bin" when the included file is Dragon Force.bin. You can remedy this problem either by changing the line inside the .cue file:
FILE "DRAGON_FORCE.BIN" BINARY to FILE "DRAGON FORCE.BIN" BINARY.
Or, you can rename the file of the binary file. (The one with the size of 635MB) From "Dragon Force.bin" to "Dragon_Force.bin".
Another Problem people seem to have often, is Guardian Heroes hanging after the first cut scene.
"Convert ISO/MP3 Rips to BIN/CUE"
Applications Needed:
Saturn MP3-WAV Converter
Sega CUE Maker
Step 1: Converting the MP3s to WAVs: (Note: If you got a barnitos release and you have a "Convert MP3.bat", and "README!!!!.txt" click the BAT file and it will decode then delete the MP3s for you.)
First extract the ISO/MP3 files into a folder by themselves. Next highlight the MP3s, right click, and select Convert to WAV. When it is through converting, delete the MP3s, and move the WAVs out of the "Converted Audio Files" folder and put them where the MP3s were.
Step 2: Making a CUE Sheet.
Open up Sega Cue Maker. Navigate to the folder where your .iso and .wav files are now. Click the "Generate CUE" button, you will see the cue sheet appear in the program window.
Now save the CUE to the same folder.
With the .CUE file, you can mount it with Daemon.
BTW, you can get the Sega Cue maker here: http://www.racketboy.com/downloads/sega-cue-maker.htm
I don't know where to get the Saturn MP3-WAV Converter (it comes with Cassini 4.0), but any program that converts .mp3 to .wav will work. There's a nice and free one here: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm
One more thing. If you get an SSE2 error while trying to run this, or any other Saturn Emulator, it means your out of luck. Your CPU wont support SSE2, which is required to run Saturn.

As an alternative to running the emulator, If you have a model 2 saturn (with round power buttons, no cd-access light) you can get a mod-chip for less than 20$, and burn the ROM images to CD-rs and play them. I currently have about 40 games played this way. a good site for info (where I got my info from is http://www.racketboy.com/guides/saturn.htm
No, I don't know him (or her)
No, i don't get money for this
No, I didn't get free stuff for promoting his/her site.

Here's some hints about SSF that some people don't know:
-To get a great boost in the speed, go to the "options" menu, select "program 2" and change the "DOT CLOCK" value to 4.00. Most games will run WAY faster with this. But if the game keeps freezing, use 3.00.
-You need more than one bios file for this emu, since some games requires especifics bioses. For example, Castlevania only works with the EURO bios, Shining Force 3 US only works with the US bios. Oh, and the area code MUST be the same as the bios you are using.
-Using the SCANLINES options makes the games run faster.

Sorry guys. If you got the SSE2 message then your out of luck. Means your Motherboard doesnt support SSE2. Ive heard there is possibly a way to override this but most likely your screwed. But if your interested I guess try researching it on google.com. Thats how I originally found stuff about SSE2.

Isn't SSE2 related to your processor??? Its an instruction first used on some processors in 2001. I may be wrong though. (But I'm not! :p)
Anyway, for people who can't run SSF, there's also Cassini. Cassini runs a lot of games, and its WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY faster than SSF.
http://www.zophar.net/Files/Cassini10_Lite.exe
Cassini is a hack of Giri Giri, but It does work like a charm. I've tested Shining Force 3 in it, and it worked, faster than SSF. Its less compatible than SSF, but its still quite recomended, and some games WILL run better on Cassini.

Well, since not everyone has an uber fast computer, I'll post a small guide on how to use the Cassini 1.0 emulator, another great emulator that plays many Saturn games.
Cassini's legality is controversial, since its a hack of Giri Giri, but as long as it can be downloaded on the Zophar's Domain (great page for emulators needs. No roms, though. http://www.zophar.net/index.phtml ), I think there's no problem.
Get Cassini 1.0 here: http://www.megagames.com/news/show.cgi?&idtype=emulators&database=230§ion=downloads&
This guide is for the 1.0 version ONLY. There's also another versions, but they are just the same emulator with some extra utilities, but they aren't more compatible, nor faster.
Anyway, here's a how to. I'm using the game Shining Force 3 as an example, BTW.
1. First install the emulator. Then get the EUROPEAN saturn bios (HAS to be called EURO.bin or cassini won't run) and put it on the same folder of Cassini. You need the EURO bios, even if you are playing american or Japanese games.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a348/Brasilidade/c5964e92.gif
2. Run Sega_Saturn_Emulator.exe. Configure the CD-ROM drive (can be a virtual drive like Deamon Tools), select the 640x480 resolution (its no use selecting a bigger one since the graphics will be the same) and select the region of the game you wanna play.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a348/Brasilidade/e664d779.gif
3. Go to the CONFIG tab and DISABLE the CLEAR SATURN MEMORY... option if its on. You can also configure the controls on this screen.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a348/Brasilidade/69b30ac3.gif
4. Now go back to the General tab and click RUN CD if you wanna run from the cd (DUH!).
5. You can also run the iso directly by use the run cue/iso option, but your iso MUST have the .cue file for this. BTW, yoy can create the .cue files using a tool on the EMU TOOLS tab.
Anyway, after loading the CD or the ISO, the emulator will start. If you get a weird message about the BIOS, its 'cause you forgot to put the bios file on the emu folder, or your bios is wrong. Again, YOU NEED THE EURO BIOS!
When the emu starts, you can press ALT+ENTER to enter the full screen mode.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a348/Brasilidade/3765cc66.gif
Also, the game won't enhance the graphics, instead it will play the games just like the original Saturn. But this emulator is A LOT faster than SSF. But its less compatible, so its best to have both. :)

Hi, thanks for this thread guys, it's very helpful :)
I have a problem though. I'm using Cassini, I've put the euro.bin BIOS in place and am trying to load a game from CD. The Saturn logo screen appears and does its thing, but then the game doesn't start. It goes straight to the music player screen, you know the one with the two green boxes either side of navigation controls. Any ideas?

Do you have more than one CD drive installed (Or maybe a virtual drive, like Deamon Tools)? If yes, try changing the drive letter on Cassini. For some reason, Cassini sometimes have problems detecting the drive letter.
Also, remember to select the right region, or the game won't even boot.
One thing that helps: go to the Emu Tools tab, select the propper drive letter and click on show info. This will give you some informations of the game, including the region.

The one I have is the original CD, and only works with the EURO bios. But here's a hint: don't bother looking for a english version, since it doesn't exist. The saturn version was never translated to english. If you wanna play the US version, get the Playstation one.

I followed the Cassini tutorial you posted, but I'm having a problem.
When I click the run CUE/BIN button in cassini for either Dragon Force or Shining Force 3, I get an error that states, "Error while trying to find *.BIN." I downloaded both games from coolrom and have the cue and bin files in the same folder. Am I doing something wrong, are the files bad, or is my comp just retarded?

Some isos here on CoolROM have some mistakes on the .cue files.
Do this: First, open the .cue file with notepad or any other text editor. The .cue file calls for the .bin file, but if the bin file isn't named correctly, the .bin file won't be located.
Take a look at this image, for example: Below is the .cue file open with notepad. Note that the .cue file refers as the .bin file as SHINING_FORCE_3_1.BIN, and note that the .bin file is named exactly like that.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a348/Brasilidade/8dc09fd6.gif
The problem is that some isos on CoolROM are named SHINING_FORCE_3_1.BIN, but the .cue file refers to a file named SHINING FORCE 3 1.BIN. Note that its not the same ('cause of the "_"). So just change the cue file acordingly.

This has to be one of the happiest days of my life, here i was today thinking back to the shining force saga, rumaging my things looking for shining force 2, which it seems i dont have anymore and playing SF3 sc1 on my saturn.
While i was looking for a rom to SF2 i came across the SF3 sc 2 and 3 roms and this great post that explains how i can fulfill what seemed it would never occur, after that huge disappointment almost 10 years ago when it was announced that sc2 and 3 wouldnt make it to europe, that is playing through the entire SF3.
I have 1 question im using cassini v1 and the music sound in Sf3 aint exactly that good, im wondering if the newer versions of either cassini or SFF are better and correct this?
Godslayerfeix i answered your question on the other post.
With all this said, thx everyone for this great explanatory post
ps. i just downloaded the latest version of SFF ver0.07 beta R3, that sound problem is gone, altough it is a bit noticeable that SFF is slower than cassini, but this version of SFF is extremely easy to use, just download, select the drive, turn off the screen scanlines and ur set, no need for bios or install.

Hi,
I'm new here, and for the time being I'm trying to get my comp to play Saturn games ever since my poor old console went to that great console heaven in the sky a few months ago. :(
Anyway, I've read up on the other posts, and my comp can't run SSF because it gives me that SSE2 error, so I've had to try Cassini (following Remorse's guide). Unfortunately, using the ISO here on CoolRom for Guardian Heroes (mounted using Alcohol 120) gives me an error when I hit the "Run CUE/BIN" button. It reads "Wrong CUE file format 2." I've tried making sure the CUE file names match, but still gives me that error. What does that mean?
[Update]
I pressed the "Run CD" button instead, and the Saturn intro sequence comes on, but went only to the music player screen (like a previous poster said). I made sure of the correct drive that I mounted the image to, and selected the correct region as well, but it doesn't load. :(

Are you sure you tryed all 3 bioses? All games wont run off of the same Bios. Try all 3 it should work, but if it still doesnt it just means SSF doesnt support that game. Golden Axe Duel is like that.

Hey, I got your solution pal. ( Good thing we bgoth love Guardian Heroes. =P ) What you have to do is go to Emu Tools, and change the .iso of the Guardian Heroes into the Cue/Bin format. Once this is done, then you run the Guardian Heroes.cue ( You'll have two, so jsut test both. ) That being said, you'll then be able to run the game. However, I froze up at the Guardian Heroes menu, after the intro. So perhaps I can get some help?

I'm trying to get Cassini to work since SSF runs slow on my computer. I configured it exactly how Remose showed, yet when I click "Run CD" I get this "Joystick not found" error followed by another error in Japanese and then it closes. I honestly have trouble with all the saturn emulators from computer to computer, so its likely that youll have to mess around with a few programs before you find the one that best fits your system. At work ssf owns it up for me, but at home cassini is the only one that will work, im guessing it has something to do with differences in mother board and graphics card configs
Good luck saturn emu can be a bit frustrating but if you just try a few different options you should be fine
try switching the bios and stuff, Also I never have much luck with the "run CD" part of Cassini and almost always use the run cue/ bin option

Its a bios problem! :p
Seriously, Cassini is very picky about the bios. Look for the name of your bios. It HAS to be named EURO.bin. The problem is that you can't just rename the bios, you HAVE to find the bios that already comes with this name, or try to download all the bioses you can to test them all. :)

I mounted the file with Daemon Tools but when it comes to loading it goes to the Saturn CD player app and though i can listen to the audio of the game it says that the CD is unsuitable for the system. Is that just because its incompatible? I dled the Euro bin and its in the right place. I also changed the files name in the cue to the right name. Hmm i just changed the Region from Japan to USA after checking the info in emu tools, but now it doesnt even go the the CD thing i just get a black screen.

Satourne is annoying so count me out. I know a few things though, You have to change all the plugins til it stops giving you the error messages, you need the .dll files in the satourne folder aswell as the C:/windows like for SSF. One more thing, you must change region for every game, every time you play it.

I got Dragon Force working in Cassini. Only with "run cue/bin" and only in fullscreen. One of my problems was trying to open the cue/bin while it was mounted with PowerISO. Of course, PowerISO locks the file while it's mounted so I had to unmount first. I bet this is the problem some ppl were having.
I do have some other issues....no video at all in windowed mode, and even in fullscreen I don't get the game menu/intro, just music. After hitting a few buttons it gets into the game and then the video starts working.
Now...does it have save states? I don't think I can beat Dragon Force in one sitting.
Here's my cue file. Make sure the path/filename matches your .bin file. Don't try to mount it, just use run cue/bin.

I am not great with emulators yet, but i am trying. ok i have downloaded cassini and keep getting the bios error (I am not asking for them) I have tried all that i have found, that being said i downloaded SSF ver0.07 beta R3 and mounted sf 3 on alcohol 120% it has 236.61 mb on it(rom) so I guess its right. I had to put the bios file in the emu, then selected the virtual drive I got from 120%. I tried running the emu and all it is, is a black screen but no error message. Any and all help would be greatly appreceated, for either emu, and i know i cant spell thank you.
on my homepage, in the emulators section, i wrote a detailed guide for GiriGiri with screenshots. (and provide download for hacked giri giri with loader)
It worked great, i got 80 FPS with Dracula X NITM

I have tried both SSF and Cassini with no luck. With Cassini, I try to load a game up and my computer crashes. Sometimes it says the disc is unsuitable for this system. With SSF, it says the drive is empty. I read both guides and I still can't figure it out.

Icec, It sounds like you need to go into the options in SSF and choose your Virtual Drive letter.
CoolFool, I have heard of people having this problem with Guardian Heroes alot.
It should be on the forums in several spots.

i got the emulator, and i got it to run the splash screen that it usually would on the normal system. but then it takes me to the music player and says "this disc is not suitable for this system" before launching i get an error with .cue file for dragon force. where would i get a .cue for this game that wouldnt cause an error? and before someone starts flaming me. yes i used "search". i downloaded the dragon force cue from a post on here, and it lets me run the game.. and i get that error ^
i tried using the one that comes with the .zip on this site, and i cant open it at all.

I'm a first time poster and a thankful reader of these two guides. However, I'm having trouble with SSF. Every time I load it up, I get this error:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/mastalouist/ssf.jpg
Odd, no? Not sure how to fix it.
Secondly, since this thread also covers Cassini, I have a question in regards to it as well. I have been able to get Shining Force 3 to run, just like in the guide, but text looks like this in-game:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/mastalouist/SF3.jpg
Its a pain to read and quite an eye-sore. Has anyone else had either problem, or know how to correct this?
Thanks

All I get is a screen that has japanese on it and play/stop/start icons that I can't select. Is this the bios? What are the controls? I just want to play this one game for crying out loud! help!

Well there shouldn't be a problem. I've never gotten one before. Check if the Cue and Bin files are named the same. Example: Game.cue, and Game.bin.
Edit: What do you mean you have 10 files? 10 games, or 5 bin and 5 cue?

For those of you having trouble with .cue I strongly suggest you get a little program called "burnatonce" once you have loaded the .cue into it it will tell you if there is an error with it and give you the option to correct it. Nice eh?
If your having trouble with SSF playing from a file I advice using "burnatonce" to put the .bin onto a CD-R I had this trouble but it worked from a disc for me maybe you will have the same success.
I'm trying to get Dragon Force to run on Cassini. I've tried running from a disc (and it caught me lol) and loading the .cue file but everytime I get the bios error with the silly text. I've tried the EURO bios I've tried the US bios named as euro.bin I tried naming it US.bin tried all regions but still I get that stupid bios error. Can any of you nice people help me out here please. The region for Dragon Force is USA/Canada if thats any help. Please help me it goes into slow-motion for like 3mins then repeats after a certain amount of time with SSF it unplayable.:(

I am a very self-admitted noob in Saturn emulating...
I have Cassini 1.0, 'coz I think SSF isn't compatible with my PC anymore. I downloaded Guardian Heroes here in this site and unzipped the files using WinRAR. I followed the instructions listed here.
I can get the intro animation running....and just that. After the intro, there's no image loading and there's a crackling sound...
Um, now comes the stupid question. Do I need to burn the ROM in a CD to run it on Cassini? Because I put two and two together: there's a ROM that can be downloaded, so I thought you don't need a CD unlike the PS Emulator I have. And I haven't found anything that pertains to that in this thread...
Please help. I have this craving to play Guardian H, Nights, Dragon Force and Shining Force 3 again. Just those games and I can kiss my Saturn craving goodbye...

Hi
I am trying to get my PAL version of Panzer dragoon saga to work on ssf. Having an array of problems.
1. Burnt an IMG file with Alcohol and mounted it to the virtual drive. For some reason my drive isnt called SCSIVAX as in the OP's screenshot. I have no idea why this is.
2. Got the game to run.. only it gets past the intro movie then I get a message saying CD tray open. How the can it be open when I am running it off a virtual drive ffs?
3. Also at the start when the Saturn bios comes on it says 'your internal backup system is not available. Press L+R+Reset to access memory manager'. Yet when I do that the screen just goes black... sigh.
4. Downloaded EURO.BIN, set the region options to europe in ssf, and added the 3 dll files. 2 were already on my comp, the other 1 i had to download. Despite this Im still getting the 'cd tray open' message. My cd tray is NOT open though...
5. Whats the STV thing for in ssf options?
6. Is the latest version of ssf flawed? Im thinking it must be
7. Where can I download cassini? The original download site has been nuked.
8. Someone said dont bother mounting an image and just download the cue/bins. I disagree, as the download speed from this site is really bad. 75kb or something on a 413mb file :D and im on 8mb ffs :D
9. Is there an English version of SSF? my japanese has never been too keen :D
10. Is Yabause or Satourne worth a look or are they crocks of poo also?
Im truly desperate, if anyone can help, please do...

1.No Idea
2.Well, if you have your Virtual Drive settings right then I dont know.
3.You may want to think about getting a different version of SSF.
4.Again, your Virtual Drive is the problem here.
5.STV is a different system SSF Emulates I believe.
6.Flawed? Probably. Certain versions are broken or messed up.
7.http://www.zophar.net/Files/Cassini10_Lite.exe
8.Correct me if im wrong someone, but dont you have to have the image file to even use the .cue in the first place?
9.Yes there is a US version. I have never actually used anything but a US version. This to me confirms that you need to get a different version of SSF.
10.Satourne and Yabouse are complete crap compared SSF or Cassini. I wouldnt bother with either of them.

Hello everybody :)
I'm new to this forum :D
Today, reading Mjshl2 post, I decided to register in order to reply.
I'm new to Saturn emulation, so I just tried a few games to see what they were like.
One of those was Guardian Heroes, and I tried to play it with Cassini. It looked pretty fine, although I just went through the very beginning of the first level.
I can't remember if I downloaded the game from Coolrom or from Gametronik (a french emulation site - hope there is no problem in naming it), but I just wanted to inform you that I could play it with Cassini.

Now tried de SSF emulator, but it doesn't work also:mad2: .... I made the right procedures (with the SSF_007_beta_R2), I got the bios, I pasted the 3 dll files in the SSF_007_beta_R2 folder and in System32 and, at the end, when I "triumphantly" open the emulator, an error ocurred. And you know what? It's not the same error as Mjshl2 told. It's a tiny window with the same funny symbols and it started with "SSE2". Can someone please tell what's wrong!?
I found this site http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~phantasy/ssf/files/index.html ; it has a very complete list of all the SSF emulators and I used the version I mentioned before. The most recent give me an error that say that required a dll file and I didn't even bother: I erased the emulator:mad3: .
Please help:( .

SSF_007 has different versions you need to try. For example, SSF_007_beta_R6 and SSF_007_beta_R7, both of which never worked for me. I found version SSF_007_beta_R9 to work just fine though.

Look I tried several emulators and none, I repeat, NONE of them worked :mad3: . One thing is for sure: the most recent ssf emulators say that they require a dll file, and then another, and another and, when I reach the last one, it still doesn't work. The others appear the error I mentioned before (SSE2) and cassini... WHY DOESN'T IT WORK?? I mean, you told me to try ssf (which didn't work), you all say it works, it works, it works, I don't see nothing. I exposed my problems, at least tell what to do. You just tell me to try another version. In all of them appear the same error :mad3: .
Tell me: why doesn't Cassini work? Why those errors I mentioned show up? What should I do to play sega Saturn games :mad :???

SSE2 means that you cant Emulate Saturn with SSF. Your processor doesnt support SSE2. The first or second page of this thread explains that.

Quick Tip on SSF. If your dot clocked at 4 like me. There is a possibility it can freeze on you. I was playing dragon force for like 6 hours, saving and all, but when it froze it didnt read all the saves i guess. So there went 6 hours down the drain. Long story short please exit SSF periodically if you on 4 dot clock and gonna play for a while. Have fun.

Hi there:
I went to a wikipedia link in this thread and I concluded that SSF won't work in both of my computers, because they don't support SSE2. So I have been betting a lot with Cassini and some progress was made.
I tried Bug! and I put region "USA/Canada" and the game starts, but it jams after the Sega logo appears and I have to quit the emulator. I tried through Run CD, but it jams when the Sega Saturn intro finishes. I have been trying with the Run CUE/BIN option and it works like I told you already.
All Cassini emulators I tried so far didn't even open the games. Those were the ones that appeared the Sega Saturn blue sphere icon at the intro. The emulator that starts the games but jams afterwards has the recent Sega Saturn logo:http://www.consolepassion.co.uk/images/sega-saturn/sega-saturn-logo.gif
I'm asking you all now: does anyone knows if there is the most recent Sega Saturn Emulator (Cassini) available on the internet (which at the intro shows this logo)? Or the problem I'm having with my emulator is another?
Mjshl2
10-07-2006, 03:04 PM
Well I dont use Cassini, and Remorse is no longer around it seems. But, is Bug! all you tried? Cassini isnt as compatible with games as SSF is. Maybe Bug! just doesnt work in Cassini. Try other games. Otherwise someone else will have to help you.

Well, I tried Cassini, and I find it easy to use.
I think the latest version is number 4.0, which has a nice frontend. It also comes with the bioses included, so you only have to choose the region after mounting the cue file with Daemon Tools (or other).
Here (http://www.emu-france.com/?page=fichiers&idMachine=25) you'll find a link to many Saturn emulators, among wich Cassini 4.0. Scroll down the page to find it.

Hi again!
I want to tell something to everyone that are currently using (or trying to use) Cassini. I found out that the version doesn't matter much. In fact, I acquired recently Cassini 3.0 and it sucks because none of the games I have work. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but for what I want, the Cassini emulator I found (I have a link below for you to download - I hope it works, if not warn me) works much better. The games I tried so far were Bug! (it doesn't work:(http://www.coolrom.com/forums/images/icons/icon13.gif), Bug Too! (the music sucks, but the game itself is working :) http://www.coolrom.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif) and Nights into Dreams (the intro sound sucks but the game and soundtrack during the game seem to be working fine :) http://www.coolrom.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif).
Although the Cassini emulator works, you must use de Run Cue/Bin option, or the emulator jams. It's a problem that GiriGiri had and in Cassini it is still not solved. There are a few steps that you must do before loading a game:
1- Download a game (I'll use the example of Nights into Dreams downloaded in Coolrom);
2- Extract the iso and cue files;
3- Open the Cassini Emulator exe;
4- In case the cue file doesn't work when you try to load it through the run Cue/Bin option, you must go to the Emu Tools separator and choose the ISO + WAVE » Cue + Bin (2352) option. Use the Nights into Dreams ISO. Wait a little bit. It's creating a new cue file.
5- Choose the region of the game (I believe Nights works with Europe region);
6- Press the run Cue/Bin option, using the cue file you created.
7- If compatible, it's going to appear a sound card error. Never mind that. Press ok and move on. If the region (and the game) are right, the game will start (after appearing the SEGA logo, you must press start several times to make the Nights intro appear). If the region is misselected, the sphere buttoned pannel is going to appear saying that the loaded disk is unsuitable for that system, or something... you must select another region. If it's incompatible, a 3D error message appears and the screen is black. You must try it in another computer (unfortunately that is what I did )
Well, download any Cassini you want and, following these steps, you won't have many problems loading a game with this emulator. :). The emulator I'm using and which it is working fine, you can download it along with the Nights into Dreams file for you to try out and an ISO creating software through this link (note: when using UltraISO, create a BIN file, not an ISO, because it doesn't work): http://www.filesend.net/download.php?f=5ae389099ce7b040e58380245acf58ec
(In case you have troubles with these steps, post your doubt here in this thread)

hey guys, this thread got me off to what i thought was a great start. my goal here is a working version of Dragon Force, something I've been trying to do for some years. heres where im running into problems:
Cassani, which is a fantastic piece of software, intermittently cuts out when i try to run my copy of Dragon Force (using a cue --> bin file)
usually it goes black after the saturn intro, sometimes after the opening cutscene, and once... only once.... i got to select my kingdom, and then it went back. ironically this was the first time i attempted to run it. imagine the heartbreak.
since cassani has been rocking for me so far (super easy), itd be nice if anyone could offer some help there, but i realize our cassani expert has evaporated
so now, on to SSF..... need your help if you dont mind Mjshl2, cause this thing wont do crap for me. the basic problem im having is that my option screen looks nothing at all like the one in your guide, and some of the options you write that i should use arent available. so here we go, refrencing my problems to the steps in your guide:
problem one: i have the 3 BIOS files, zipped up. however, they are BIN files, and not ROM files like i see in your screenies. problem?
step two is no problem. free DLL downloads are cool
step 3: i have daemon tools and know how to use em. good times
step 4: SCSIVAX is NOT an available option for any of my CD drives! problem?
i dont get any SSE errors, my machine is up to the task. however, i cannot seem to configure the software correctly.
help please?

hey, dr_bisturi, wondering if I could get some help (before I screw up my compurter even more).
I'll go through your steps
Hi again!
cut
There are a few steps that you must do before loading a game:
1- Download a game (I'll use the example of Nights into Dreams downloaded in Coolrom); (I downloaded yours)
2- Extract the iso and cue files; (What exactly do you mean? In your link, it'sa .rar file. I can rename it to .iso and make it an iso file, and then extract the cue and bin through Cassini. Is that what you mean?)
3- Open the Cassini Emulator exe; (un-hun)
4- In case the cue file doesn't work when you try to load it through the run Cue/Bin option, you must go to the Emu Tools separator and choose the ISO + WAVE » Cue + Bin (2352) option. Use the Nights into Dreams ISO. Wait a little bit. It's creating a new cue file. (did that. see above)
5- Choose the region of the game (I believe Nights works with Europe region); (Actually, I've gotten the Sega intro with every region, but haven't gotten the game with any, which is the point I'm getting to.)
6- Press the run Cue/Bin option, using the cue file you created. (did)
7- If compatible, it's going to appear a sound card error. You must try it in another computer (unfortunately that is what I did ); (I never got the sound card error.)
cut more
Then, once I'm at the main screen, it won't let me do anything. It reads a disk, but I can't play it or anything. I am new to this, so don't get too technical, but can you help me please?

Hi again!
KotSS, I'm going to review the steps with you:
1- Ok
2- I see, it's an interpretation mistake. You need to open the compressed emulator file that you have just downloaded and then OPEN THE NIGHTS INTO DREAMS FILE AND EXTRACT THE CUE AND ISO FILES (you don't have to extract the other sound files, just the cue and iso);
3-Ok
4-You have to do this on the Nights Into Dreams rom, but since you said you have done that, do it again with the right files this time (the ISO file, that is)http://www.coolrom.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif
5-Probably because you did the step number 4 wrong, this one won't work well. Try the region again along with step 6;
7-If the sound card error didn't appear, good for you :D . But if no error appeared, then, like I told you, you need to repeat the steps again with the Nights into Dreams's CUE and ISO files.
Then, once I'm at the main screen, it won't let me do anything. It reads a disk, but I can't play it or anything.
Did you load the game through the run cue/iso option or the Run CD option? Cassini won't let you read ISOs or CDs through the Run CD option. It jams exactly the way you've just described.
After you do the steps again with the right CUE and ISO, tell me if it worked.:).

Okay, I've done everything here for SSF, including finding a free version of alcohol, but aside from helping me run Megaman 8, my other games, radiant silvergun and catlevania SOTN are running slow, even with some of the suggestions made. Is this just an emulation scene problem as speed is still hard to pull off?

Yep, 1 gig of ram. This is driving me nuts.
Could it be an XP problem, or maybe when my computer was put together it was done wrong, or is saturn emulation not that fast yet?
The games I currently have
MM8- Works fine, sometimes it stalls for a split second to get me killed.
Castlevania-SOTN- Lags or runs at 80% speed
BUG!- Flickering background
Radiant silvergun- Choppy as all hell on bosses.
Is it the games or the emulator?

SSF has alot of crappy versions, so trying different ones should yield different results.

I just tried release 008 alpha R2, which just came out.
Speed? Holy crap on toast, it emulates MM8, and Castlevania perfect or near perfect. There are slight "jumps" of frame skip during explosions but it's like a slight half hiccup, so it's all good.
As for Bug and Radiant silvergun? Bug emulates with the flickering background problem greatly reduced, and much smoother. Radiant Silvergun is still slightly buggy on boss battles. Since it's a shoot-em-up it'll have to be 100% match in speed, even a "hiccup" can mean disaster

And then closes.
Also I have a question, I have done all the steps but in Alcohol I have the option "Mount on Device" in grey (so I can't use it). So I use "Image Burning Wizard". It ok what I done? please help me.
Mjshl2
11-19-2006, 04:59 PM
Try a different SSF version. Otherwise try Cassini. As for Alcohol you have to set the Virtual Drive up through the Options. Im guessing you didnt set it up. that would be why there is no Virtual Drive showing. Image Burning Wizard is for burning the .iso to a disc. Set up your Virtual Drive.
1) Hi again, I could not run SSF but I found Cassini. I have a question, how I make a viable iso to run into Cassini?
2) Also Alcohol doesn't give me any option in "Mount on Drive" and the virtual drive show me "No Media" status...
356
What's the problem with this? I cannot create images Y_Y
Mjshl2

See under Options on the left where it says Virtual Drive? You need to go in there and Configure the drive and then apply it. Your configuration has to be wrong, otherwise it would be working. If you did apply it and its just not working, try Re-installing. Or you could just try getting Daemon Tools.

European is only shown as an example. The Rom your trying to run needs to be set to Japanese. So instead of Europe set the Bios and Area code to Japan.

For anyone getting "CD Tray Opened" message under SSF. You must have mounted the bin file because the included cue file did not work. You have to use the cue file.
For fixing cue file, I'll be using Dragon Force for Sega Saturn as an example, available for download on this site; it should work for others games if they have similar errors.
There are 3 files:
Dragon Force.BIN
Dragon Force.cue
readme.html
If you try to load the cue file with Daemontools, you would get an error. To fix this, follow these steps:
1) Right-click Dragon Force.cue and select edit or load Notepad and open the file from there.
2)The text inside the cue file will appear (of course) as below:
FILE "DRAGON_FORCE.BIN" BINARY
TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
INDEX 01 00:00:00
TRACK 02 AUDIO
PREGAP 00:02:00
INDEX 01 62:33:42
The problem is it is looking for a file called "Dragon_Force.bin" when the included file is Dragon Force.bin. You can remedy this problem either by changing the line inside the cue file
FILE "DRAGON_FORCE.BIN" BINARY
to
FILE "DRAGON FORCE.BIN" BINARY
or
You can rename the file of the binary file (the one with the size of 635MB) from "Dragon Force.bin" to "Dragon_Force.bin".
Enjoy :)

ok, I've been trying to get this saturn emulator to work for over 2 weeks now. I am now closer than ever, I actually get the saturn to load.
I am trying to get saturn bomberman to work but I get the error that says "Game disk incompatable with system" (or something like that) and I looked up the compatability and it says that the game works with SSF so whats the problem. Ive tried all 3 bios and I have no idea what to do (I am totally new to this emulation thing).
Also, I have tried Casinni and have gotten that to work as far as the saturn main screen, then the sega screen after that (like when the game starts) but it freezes after that. If you can help me with either emulator(I prefer casinni more because it is faster, that is if saturn bomberman is even compatable with it) (or saturne, I have that too) please do.

Around 1998-1999 I got my Saturn (the one with the round on/off and reset buttons) modded with a switch on the back to let me play import games. I don't suppoe this is the same thing / similar? Works great though. If not, well, I have no idea who did the installation (a now closed down video game store served as the middle man; drop it off and then pick it up in a week with the mod) and couldn't do it myself. I'd love to play CD-R on my saturn, but if I need this mod to do it, I'll go the emulator route if I have to. Just wondering. :)

You need to try and find another Saturn Bomberman Rom. I had this same problem. You need the Roms region to be European.

Maybe I missed this somewhere, but whenever I try to mount the cue file to Daemon tools, it says that it is unable to mount image because the file is not accessible. I'm guessing it has something to do with the settings of my computer but I have no idea what to do.

Remay don't ask for a Bios file. Google scph1001.bin.
Booyaka, your problem is probably that you need to edit the .cue files. Its in the first part of the guide.

Hey guys.
I'm having a big problem with SSF.
When I run Bomberman Fight!! and when I get to the game proper, it displays this error a whole bunch of times.
http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/4088/errorjv3.jpg
and then it displays "CD Tray Opened", and closes the program. I ran the ISO.
I converted all of the music tracks from MP3 to WAV, and made a CUE of it, and now SSF won't even load it, Instead, the window is black(blank) and says:
"?????????????????."
(I mounted it on my Virtual Drive with DaemonTools.. It's not autoplaying when I load the CUE--that probably indicates it won't work in any emulator, but it is autoplaying when I load the ISO that gets to the game, then gets the numerous errors.)
Could somebody help me with this?

Regardless of Virtual drives? You need a Virtual drive to run the .iso's. You have to mount the Rom file onto your Virtual drive. You also must go in the options in SSF and Configure which drive letter the Virtual drive is.

Its in the guide along with how to fix .cue files.

Heya, I've been following nearly ALL the instructions in this thread, and I've almost got NiGHTS into Dreams working on Cassini. The thing is, when it starts up and when I press the start button, the music is literally screeching and buzzing (except for the Sound FX). Hello. I'm new to the sega saturn emulation and by using the guide i was able to play dragon force successfully. The thing is though that I downloaded dragon force and dragon force two, but both were missing the cue sheet when I unzipped them. By copy and pasting the contents of the guide to notepad and naming it "dragon force.cue" I was able to get it to work, but now there is no information of dragon force II, that i can simply copy and paste. So if anyone has the information please post it.

Hi, I'm rather new at the emulating aspect of video games, but I have followed the directions for Cassini and for SSF, both emulators are giving me the same problem however. I manage to get the emulator started up, it loads the game, and after the Sega splash screens my emulator turns black. When it does this, nothing else happens, I usually have to restart my emulator to do anything. I am trying to play Astal, and have tried it from a .cue and from .iso. I have tried different BIOS in the case of SSF, and tried all Regions for my game setting, but nothing works. Is there something I'm doing wrong, or does the game just not work?
I am currently running SSF and using the european bios. I am playing Dragon force directly from the disc but i cant save the game. While using the (save state) function, it reads save error. while using the game to save, it will read unable to save to this library. Can someone kindly please advice me how to save in this game. I don't think SSF supports a light gun.
LordFryz, Astal works. Ive tested it myself using the same steps in this guide. Its really glitched, but it works. There must be something your doing wrong. When you say it loads the game, do you mean it loads the dashboard? Or is it actually going somewhat in game?

1. When i try to start up SSF, even without loading a game, a message pops up that says "CD Drive is not ready", any idea what thats about?
2. when i went into options to see what i could do to fix problem #1, and after configuring the options, a message saying "ssf????????" kept popping up when i pressed the ok button, any ideas?
The game i am trying to play is Princess Crown if that helps, and any information that answers the above questions would be extremely helpful. thanks. The version im using is SSF_007_beta_R6.

Ive been trying for a few hours already and cant seem to get it to work. I am using the SSFalphaR11 for my vista laptop. I am tryin to play Dragon Force. I got the cue file renamed to match and everything. I got the saturn bios files. I set it to the eng one and region to america. When i run the ssf i can see the Saturn set time and all. It then says disc unsuitable probably because its looking for a saturn cd in the cd drive? well i have the daemon tools and i mount the cue file. it loads up my windows media player with a message like "warning only for sega saturn etc"

My 2 games Guardian Heroes and Blazing Heroes worked fine until I did something that I forget.
Now I am getting this error message after the game start up and I try to press start.
MasterSH2 code= 7F36
060040000 : (7F46) ADD #H'36, R15
Then it talks about some Slave Code thing and other jibber jabber that I don't understand. Anyone have a clue?
Forgot to mention this is on SSF emulator

Hi. New to the forums and I appreciate the thread. I've just recently started using SSF alpha 008 R10 with Daemon Tools and everything, for the most part, has worked great thanks to your guide. I am having a problem with Shining Force III scenario 1, though. My other games like Legend of Oasis and Shining the Holy Ark have all worked perfectly, but when I mount Shining Force and start up SSF, it simply shows the Saturn logo and goes to the CD player without starting the game. My other games don't have this problem. I've tried everything I could think of including switching to Eur and Japan, even though I knew that wasn't going to work. I suppose I could try another version of SSF, but I'd hate to do that since all of the other games that I want to play have been fine. Any thoughts? Thanks.

All I can suggest, is that you make sure its mounted properly. That is the only other problem if your matching region and Bios with the rom in the correct way.
Richruzz, just start over from scratch. If it was working before you should be able to get it working again.

Hi,
I have the SSF 008 Alpha R11 installed here and I simply cant make it run (the game is Shining the Holy Ark). I have all the bios, all de .dll files, my motherboard has support for SS2 and I´m using daemon tools to mount the .CUE image I have from the game.
Well I ony receive that "disk unsuitable for this system" message. I have tried all bin files (I have USA/Japan/Euro), tried all regions, tried running the game directly from my cd and dvd drives, and from the .CUE image and the .ISO image (I have both). I have also put all files in many different folders (well I´m trying everything I can think about) and renamed the bios files and, believe me, many MANY other configurations and versions of SSF (006, 007 and now 008).
I have a pentium 4 with 2,66mhz, 512RAM, 256m videocard (ATI), Windows XP SP2
At this point I just cant think anything more to do, so I´m here asking for help from more experienced users to help me. I really want to play Saturn RPG´s and I know that Shining is compatible, so I´m not still ready to give up.
Any help will be very welcomed, thank you

Like many before you, your problem is either mounting. Or not matching up the region and Bios with the rom. Those are the only two possible problems when you get the disc unsuitable error. Make sure you match them correctly(If you use the Euro Bios make sure the area code is set to Euro as well). They must match. Try all 3 if one region doesn't work.
I'm running Dragon Force II in SFF, and everything is running fine except battles with over 120 soldiers. The battle screen plays, the Now Loading screen appears, then goes blank while the music continues to play. This never resolves. Any advice?

Just curious, instead of using a virtual drive, can I burn the ROM's files to a CD, and run it from there instead? I am on Vista, so Daemon Tools won't work, AFAIK. And from what I have read, Alchohol 120% causes the OS to give the BSoD on startup.
EDIT: Well, I just tried burnign all of the files from NiGHTS onto a CD; when I first started up SSF at first to see if it would start (and did, after I configured the BIOS), I just happened to have a CD for a PC game in the drive, and it just said the the disc was not suitable. When I started the emulator up with the NiGHTS disc in the drive, it just said that the drive was empty... so now I am wondering if CDs can still be used, since it detected the PC game's disc. But on the other hand, it didn't detect the disc with the ROM image on it.
Although, I just checked the CUE file in notepad, and the ISO names are the same, but the CUE refrences WAV files, and the sound files included in the download are MP3s, so I'll try changing them.
EDIT 2: Well, I changed the sound files to WAV files, and burned those to a CD. Now, it's still the same result.

From what I understand, Daemon has adware, even if you don't install the toolbar... at least in the newer versions, which work with vista. I was talking about the earlier version, which didn't have adware.
EDIT:Well, alright, I installed Daemon. Now, I get "Game disc is unsuitable for this system", so it's something with the ROM. Does anyone here know what region the Nights rom on here is? It's definatly now Japenese, and it's not working with the U.S. BIOS, so is it European?
EDIT 2: Nevermind, I got it to run. Thanks so much for the guide! NiGHTS runs at 60 FPS-and is turning out to be some of the most fun I have ever had with a video game. Are there any other Saturn games I should try?

Just a quick question - and a MAJOR thanks to the original poster; I was having so much trouble figuring out the whole Saturn emulation thing, but found this page, followed your instructions and now it's working fine...
The one problem I'm having is how to save the game. For instance, I'm playing Shining Force III Scenario 1. I did a "save state" just to be safe, but even though I recorded my game with the priest, when I went back in after restarting the computer, at the opening screen, I tried the "continue" option and it said there was no record available. So the actual record of my game was wiped, either when I exited SSF, closed Daemon, or rebooted.
Does anyone know how to solve this? Or does it have the same effect to just keep doing state saves? I'm new to emulation of this particular system (Saturn), so I'm lost. Any help would be great! Thanks again!

I love your guide to Cassini, and the one game I wanted to play for the longest time is Panzer Dragoon Saga. It works great, to a point, near the end of CD 1, where you enter the cave (if you know what I'm talking about)
Anyway, when the encounter starts, the main character starts speaking, and when he stops, the other person starts speaking, with subtitles and without sound. Then the camera seems to get stuck looping around the monster, and if I press the start button, the screen goes blank, and the music starts to bump. I use Cassini and Daemon Tools with a mounted PDS image. Hope this helps, and thanks.

I've just discovered Cassini, and I can make it work pretty well except for one problem. I cannot enable joypad control, only keyboard control. When I click on "configure 1st player joypad" in the config tab of the emulator, I receive a message saying "Still not availabel - I don't know why my pad doesnt run under DelphiX". I have no idea what this means. When I access the "configure screen and joystick shortcut " icon from the emulators files - not in the emulator itself - I can successfully calibrate my joypad, and it recognizes what joypad I am using. I then finish and save, but when I start the emulator I still get the same message, and only keyboard control is available. I'm quite stumped. Any specific help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys, I'm pretty new to this thing so bare with me. I have downloaded a skip of Saturn ROMs but most of them are ISO/MP3. I came here so that I could understand how I can convert them into BIN/CUE. I have the MP3-WAV Program and that is fine... but the original link at to download the Sega Cue Maker at the beginning of this thread (racketboy) doesn't work, at least for me. I tried others but again they have either been removed or are asking for something that I don't understand. Can you please send me a link to a simple installation for a Sega Cue Maker program? So I can finally play Guardian Heroes! lol

First of all, I love this site. Most accurate emultor/rom site i've found on the web. Now for the fun part. I've been fighting w/SFIII for days now and i can't seem to get it to work. It goes to the CD plyer screen and no further. I can't get it to work on ssf or cassini. I've tried every different combo of BIOS and zip code that there is, and still nothing. I've got other games to work but this one is just being a pain in the rear. Also, i've tried 4 different versions of ssf. Am i missing something? Any suggestions? I'm starting to get very aggravated cuz i'm jonesing to play this game.:mad3: Thanks in advance for your input.

I have been unsuccessful with all my attempts at running Saturn rom images with SSF. With one game, I had bin/cue files, but I received errors whenever I tried mounting the cue file. And yes, I did open the file with notepad to make sure that it matched the bin file. Then, I had another game that came with an iso file, a cue file, and a bunch of mp3s. I convered to mp3s to wave files, and created a new cue file, but there was no corresponding bin file. I tried mounting the iso file, but I got an error message when I tried to run SSF. Finally, I have another game that come with MDF and MDS files. I mounting the MDS file and I can run the game....but SSF completely freezes up after a few seconds. I would GREATLY APPRECIATE any help that I can get! Thanks!

Hello, I have installed the emulator working right but I have downloaded shining force 3 (which i own 2 versions at home) to finish the saga. In the winzip package i downloaded it has 14 parts to it when i opened the first winzip to be unzipped again. Now only Winzip folder #1 has a BIN file in it and also a CUE file. But the other 13 winzips have CUE files only in them. In other words what must I do to make these files into a .ISO to load on daemon to play the game? Also if and when i unpack the 14 .CUE files from winzip they are all named the same must i change the name on each? Sorry for so many questions I am new to this and trying my best to get this to work so fusterating!

Turner16, I think that rom is one that doesn't work for Saturn Emu's. If your matching bios with region and all that correctly and it doesn't work, Your out of luck. Try getting it on Chankast or that new CPS3 Emulator. As for anyone wondering about .cue file stuff. I posted everything I know, you will have to find someone who's actually done it. The only games that require this I don't even like so I just took the info from what others told me. Anyone using Cassini might as well switch to SSF cause I cant help them with that either.
I have all 4 disks of Panzer Dragoon Saga downloaded. I got past the first disk, and it wants me to insert the second. I'm using Daemon tools, and so far it has been working great. However, once I mount disk 2 and run in (in Cassini) it says the disk is "unsuitable." I've looked around the new for hours looking for answers. I have the right bios (euro.bin), and like I said disk 1 worked fine. I tried mounting and running disk 3 and 4, and the same problem pops up. It puts me at the Saturn menu with that same message, disk unsuitable. Can somebody help?

Hi, I'm having trouble with Cassini. I've followed the directions here to the letter. I have the CUE pointing correctly to the BIN, and the BIOS is in the Cassini folder, correctly named. However, when I try to start Panzer Dragoon Zwei with the CUE/BIN button, a black screen flashes for a milisecond, and the program just shuts off. Nothing happens. Any reason this may be?

I'm having some problems with SSF. I'm running two different versions of it. Some games just don't seem to run on the latest version. Mainly Radiant Silvergun and Panzer Dragoon Saga. They seem to lock up consistantly at the same points in the games. I had to download the previous version of the emulator to get them to run without freezing. Does anyone else notice this, or have a problem?
The other, more major problem is with fullscreen display. When I run the emulator at fullscreen, it seems to...well...not be fullscreen on all games. I tried forcing the emulator to run at 640X480, but that doesn't seem to fix it. Off the top of my head, Dragon Force, Albert Odyssey, and Guardian Heroes will run at proper fullscreen display. Panzer Dragoon Saga, Burning Rangers, Radiant Silvergun, and Grandia will be really borderd, and seem to be almost widescreen. They look fine, it's just incredibly annoying to have the screen so far. I'm on a laptop, specifically a Macbook, so I can't really adjust the screensize. Does anyone know of anything I can do to fix this? It's almost like those games need to be forced into a 4:3 fullscreen resolution.

I have a 2.0ghz Intel Core 2 Duo but with a rather whimpy graphics chip (intel 945 Express somethingorother) and I'm running mostly every game at fullspeed with the dot clock at 2.00 on SSF 0.09 Alpha 3. Hi, new member. I joined solely for this Saturn humbug. As we all know, Japanese Saturn games (the ones I want) are overpriced. We want to play these games but they're not available for the normal Joe.
Yesterday I tried Saturn emulation after a long time. I tried an official copy of Soukygurentai and it worked extremely well. I got all exited and wasted massive amounts of time trying to find some Saturn game rips, this site being one of them. I've tried a copy of Battle Garegga which I've had earlier and Radiant Silvergun form this site, but to no avail. Is it just me or are people uploading non-working copies?
I'm using Daemon Tools to mount the images, which it does without any complaints, but when starting SSF, it goes to directly to the audio player screen. My Saturn did this as well when I tried modding it and put in a burned game. I guess it doesn't detect it...
edit: And just as side question WHAT IS THE POINT OF HAVING FILE NAMES THAT DON'T CORRESPOND WITH THE .CUE FILE?! /caps... Is this some sort of conspiracy? Who comes up with this stuff? It seems like every single rip is done like this... Obscene.

My probelm is that even though it shows the "mount on device" option it is in gray and wont let me chose it. I am running a trial version of Alcohol 120%. Is that the problem? I hope not because I am broke and was hoping to make this happen without having to buy any software etc. Please let me know...any help would be GREATLY appreciated
Hey, we all "buy" our softwares here. LOL. :p

Hi there, long time don't see :)
I have tried a long ago to play Sega Saturn games at the Cassini emulator, but it turns out the one game I wanted to play (Bug!) jams.
I later found out that Bug! would work better at the SSF emulator's latest version.
What I want to know is if there's any problem playing the emulator in a pc with Windows Vista 32-bit.
Another thing: I downloaded the SSF emulator's latest version on this site:
evilboris.sonic-cult.net/SSF/index.php?x=download
Do I need anything else to play the game?

I'm in the exact same situation; first time trying any emulation stuff, and all because of the allure of Dragon Force, which I used to play all the time before my Saturn died. The "Mount on Device" option is grayed out for me as well, and I'm using the free trial version of Alcohol 120%, if that makes a difference.
Also, I seem to have a different interface than the one shown in the guide's screenshots. Under the "Saturn BIOS" line and above the "CD Drive" line in SSF's options, there's another text box for a thing called "STV BIOS" which you also must browse for. What do I need to browse for on this part of the options, or can I just leave it blank?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok first you MUST have a working cue file for this to work in my experience, if you don't either follow the guide to alter it or download sega cue maker from somewhere(i believe that's it's name).
Well first you may want to download deamon tools if you don't intend to have the full version of alcohol 120%, you can try running the iso/bin or whatever it is by selecting all files instead of all image files(like iso).
Also make sure you set the disk drive to the second choice(or third if you have both alcohol and daemon installed) and it should boot up automatically upon starting the emulator, it works in ver 10 i'm sure.
Also about the STV bios, you don't need that, in fact you don't even need the saturn bios if you check the no BIOS in the programs, i'm not sure but i think it runs better without a bios in my experience.

The thing is, I followed the guide and did exactly what it said to do. I even tried it both ways; altering the file name of the .bin file, and editing the .cue file to make it refer to "DRAGON FORCE.bin" instead of "DRAGON_FORCE.bin" to no avail.
I'm gonna go ahead and download Daemon Tools instead, it's probably because this Alcohol thing is only a trial version.
EDIT: SUCCESS!
I finally got it to work. Turns out it was Alcohol's fault all along, because Daemon Tools got it to work instantly.

Hi Folks,
Read through his thread in its entirety and as far as I can tell my issue has not been covered yet... Here's the deal. I was running the latest version of SSF on my old media PC but the poor thing cooked on me. Built a new machine with a core2duo, 2 gigs ram, etc. running media center 2005. I made sure that I have the latest directx and aspi drivers. The issue that I have been unable to solve thus far is that when attempting to launch SSF it brings up the window briefly then closes out. No matter what I try it will not run on this machine, the application refuses to launch and stay running... Am I possibly missing some DLLs or other programs that would have been installed on my previous machine? It does run on my laptop as well with zero issues. I am totally stumped on this one. Thanks for any help!

Okay, I got SSF up and running. It played the first level of Panzer Dragoon fine. After level 1, it went to the "music player" screen for the Sega Saturn. With Panzer Dragoon II, it only plays the opening video before going to the "music player" screen. Panzer Dragoon Saga just goes right to the "music player" screen. Anyone know what to do to get them to play???
I'm running Win7, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it??? I'm mounting with Virtual Clonedrive since a lot of stuff is either incompatible with Win7 or costs money and I'm too cheap to pay for the software right now.

I'm guessing it's windows 7, but i can't be sure.

Okay. I saw other people have similar posts on other boards (but before Win7 came out if my memory serves correctly), so that's why I was hoping it wasn't Win7.
Is there a Saturn Emu that is Win7 compatible?

Hmm, well i have a suggestion to be sure if it's windows 7 or not, download a rom from the saturn section and see if it runs fine, if it does, than it may be the cue file.
Noone on heere probably knows.
If you know where i can get it please let me know:D
If you know where i can get EURO.bin please let me know:D

Egad double post!
Also: Doesn't that come with all the needed files? I mean, mine has the EURO file what happened, at least for me, is that the program didn't "find them" because you put them in a different folder then it wanted to go.
Find the directory root for the EURO.bin... I'm sure you've got it.
...of course that WAS on other emulators. So I could very well be incorrect.

Mostly games that use the 4MB cartridge like X-men vs Street Fighter, Marvel vs Street Fighter and Marvel Super Heroes.
(Edit)
I'm using SSF version 0.8 on a Toshiba Satellite L500-128 using Windows Vista 64bit if that helps.

i apologize if my question is already in this threat but it's been a really long day and i don't have time to look through it...
my question is simple, NiGHTS took up all my System Memory on ssf and i was wondering if there a way around this. can i set the memory to save on the harddrive somewhere instead of on the emulator?

I'm running Dragon Force II in SFF, and everything is running fine except battles with over 120 soldiers. The battle screen plays, the Now Loading screen appears, then goes blank while the music continues to play. This never resolves. Any advice?
hey how did you get Dragon Force II to even work??? what Bios are you using?

Whenever I try to run SSF on my Vista laptop, it gives me this error:
XAudio2Create() error.
File: ./XAudio2.cpp
Line: 218
Function: XAudio2_Initialize
It doesn't even give me a chance to configure my bios...
Has anyone gotten this error before? Google isn't helping at all.
