Running Sega CD and Sega 32x With Gens or Gens+.(Kega Fusion should be very similar.)

1.With most Emulators you will need Bios files. This one is no exception. Except you need one for both Sega CD and 32x. www.google.com for those. The Roms and Bios files must be unzipped for Sega CD.

2.After you have aquired Bios files, go to Option, Bios/Misc files in Gens. It should be easy for Sega CD theres the 3 Regions. For Sega 32x theres the Master, Slave, and M6800. Enable them so it looks like the picture below.
http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/1779/biossegacd5ec.jpg

3.I recommend Using the 2xSAI Render Option. It makes games much better graphically.
http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/1882/gens2xsai4bn.png

4.Lastly, to get some games to work, you must go to CPU at the top Menu and enable Perfect Synchro(SLOW). Some games will freeze if this is not enabled.
http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/4116/perfectsynchro2fz.jpg

If your having trouble getting sound to work, you need to rename the .mp3 files that came with the Rom.
You're playing from an .iso, and your .mp3s are misnamed:
1. The naming convention for ISO/MP3 sets MUST be used
A. track.iso, track02.mp3, track03.mp3...
B. NOT track01.iso, or track.iso and track01.mp3;
THAT WILL NOT WORK

Hey all, i got the Bios for sega cd but to have it run, do i have to have the 32X bios also? I'm getting an error message on all games for the CD " Error! This is an NTSC-compatable Sega CD for use in the NTSC regions other than Japan and Southeast Asia." Can someone help me out here please?

Bakura fan you need to extract that .rar file. It will come up with a bunch of .mp3s and another .rar file which you dont unzip. As for the Bios Your gonna need to know what they are to play Sega CD, and alot of other Emulators. The Bios is what gets everything working and you will need it to boot the system, so make sure you have it. Blitz you only have to have Bios for Sega 32x if you want to play 32x. You should be fine just tryin to run it without it but it sounds like you have a Bios problem. Try getting the Bios file from somewhere else, and make absolutely sure its configured right.

Blitz

Got it working dude, thanks..it was the Bios. Also, Bakura needs to download Winrar so he can extractthe files for the games. Hope it helps Bakura. Game on all!

I am having a littel problem loading Lunar in gen sega CD emulator. I got the USA BIOS for the sega CD and all I got was the boot screen. My CPU doesnt like high res programs/apps. I cant seem to do anything with the cue/bin files and I guess that is why I cannot load the game. -_-''

Mjshl2
03-26-2006, 05:09 PM
The boot screen? So did it show the sega cd logo and then freeze afterwards? If so, Then try enabling perfect synchro slow in options like shown above. If that doesnt work but it is actually booting to the sega cd screen, the rom might not work. Willy beamish doesnt work for me but everything else ive tried works fine.

I appreciate all the help you guys have given me but im still lost. I am not able to extract the files or at least i dont know how. For Sega Genesis files all i have to do is right click and go to extract all. I cant do that with Sega Cd roms. Anyway the Genesis roms come in a compressed folder, Sega Cd roms do not. The icon picture in the title is almost what the file looked like when I downloaded it. Since i couldn't get the real picture. Anyway what is Winrar and how do i get it?

TecraMan82

ah gen was booting improperly and not acting as a console, it was showing the end logo of a animated world of the USA BIOS file. My problem was I was reusing the USA reigon file for everything, that was why it couldnt load the rom. and plus I unziped the iso and was using the cue/bin files. Now it is playing genesis, Sega CD+ 32x roms without a problem! although to get it to run double sized on my laptop I had to change display to the smallest size and change to 16bit colour, no biggy.

can you walk me through your technique

TecraMan82
03-26-2006, 09:36 PM
OK I will try
you want to run sega master system roms, sega CD roms (lunar and shining force CD my favotrie) and any 32x games you wanna play. these roms are all different sizes so make sure after downloading Gen you make 4 seperate diractories, one for BIOS files, one for each system to hold the Rom packs, it will be easyier to load them once you have he Gen running if the games are seperated by the same way, by consoles. the BIOS files you will need 1 for the master system, 3 for sega CD and 3 for 32X, bascially 3 of them double as reigon indicators as well as bios. You may only want to use on or all three either way you goto eidolons-inn.net there you can type in each console name and follow that by "bios file" or try searching for tools or resources. Gen might work but it likes to have all the bios files to run it well. I had the sega CD bios and gen didnt load or unload thye roms but after i downloaded all the bios files and put them in the same dir it bootedup and unloads nicly. thats it

I went to a site and it told me to do this in order to play the game.

"If you want to play from an ISO image, select "File" - "Load ROM" (don't forget to set the file type to Sega CD) and specify the ISO image."

What i need to know is how to set the file type to a Sega CD file and specify the ISO image

Mjshl2

If you have your Bios set like shown in the walkthrough all you have to do is load the rom. You wont have to select which system, it does it for you.

04-01-2006, 02:30 PM
Vewtiful I think your problem is the CD Sram size makes sure its turned all the way down. Sonic wouldnt work for me until I did this. Not sure if any other games freeze using it but I just leave it off like shown.

Hi,
I read your post about the bin stuff and I'm trying to understand it. I downloaded the gens emulator and also downloaded Lunar Eternal Blue. Could you try to help me guide the process on how to play it? I tried to follow the directions but the bin part is unclear. Could you try to post a screenshot of the bin page for Lunar? I tried to use a bin file but when I try to open LUnar a black screen just pops and stays like that. THanks

GENS is still a great emulator, but Kega Fusion is now the best for Sega CD, and for Sega games in general.

It can play games that GENS can't, like Willy Beamish and the 32X games.* Emulates the Sega SG-1000, SC-3000, Master System, and GameGear with a
high degree of accuracy.
* Emulates the Sega MegaDrive/Genesis more accurately than any other
emulator.
* Emulates the Sega MegaCD/SegaCD more accurately than any other emulator.
* Emulates the Sega 32X more accurately than any other emulator.
* Emulates the Sega CD+32X together, no other emulator can do this.

Kega Fusion Home Page (Download 3.51 which is the latest version):
http://www.eidolons-inn.net/tiki-index.php?page=Kega

And don't worry about having to learn how to use a brand new emulator after you just learned how to use GENS.
Because Kega Fusion is very similar to Gens in both how it's set up and used.
Kinda reminds me of how similar ePSXe and PSXeven are to each other.

Nope!! Sega CD emulation still is very buggy when using save states. 90% of the games will crash if you use them.

But saving on the Sega CD ram works, I've beaten both Lunars on Gens using the ram save, and its perfect.

I downloaded Kega and the essential bios-data. Set everything right in the options and wanted to load a sega cd image. Unfortunatelly I always end up in front of this... HiFi menu where I can choose play and so forth. But I'm not able to start the game.

Maybe someone can help me out here?

do a google search for SEGD CD BIOS - it will probably shoot you to a page @ Eioldons cafe or whatever that has the files right on the page you get linked to. i did all this stuff in like 10 minutes tops.

ON a different note : DARK WIZARD is not working correctly !!! :mad2:
Thats not cool - should i re-download it ?
I request help or something - THX

For some reason save states only work in the session you are running in gens, if you close gens the save state wont load on a re-run, at least this happens for me.

As of version 3.3 Kega Fusion does not require the Sega 32X BIOS images. You do still need them for Sega CD.

I have a question about downloading Sega-CD & other videogame systems ISOS: It is essential to have a download manager for downloading those games or not? Each ISO have at least 25MB or more and all I have is dial-up connection. I hope someone can help me with this.

Mjshl2
01-29-2007, 05:04 PM
Well, a download manager isnt really going to do much with Dial-up. Certain Sega CD games are like 200-300Mb I think some are even bigger to. What I use to do when I didn't have a fast connection, was just go to a friends and get this stuff. Otherwise you will be waiting a long time.

Can someone please try to explain what I'm doing wrong here?

I'm trying to play Jaguar XJ220, I have downloaded two diff roms of the game, better to have 2 so theres more chance of at least one working, but neither will open at all...

I've downloaded Bios packs, from these very forums, and put them into the right sections as shown in the Pictures by the Original Poster:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/Bb-F`iN-B/Jag1.jpg

I didn't forget to leave the " .\ " in the top field either, I know it shows its not there but I put that in.
Once that is done, I've gone on to try and open either of my ROM Jag XJ220 Games, and It just says this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/Bb-F`iN-B/Jag2.jpg

I've tried it on both Gen and Gen+ as suggested, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, I've followed it all closely :(

tatsuya1221
01-18-2009, 01:27 PM
Ok, first i'll guide you since i know what the issue is.
I have to ask though, are you typing the directories in?
Don't, instead, go to bios/misc.then go to change, go into the folders the bios is in and double click on the bios itself, do this for the rest of them and it should work, also be sure to click ok, or it won't save.

KON-TR4B4ND
01-19-2009, 05:22 AM
Yeh, I do put them in that way. I wouldn't type them in personally, unless I had to. Way too much effort lol. This is a shot of when I was opening one for the SCD (Don't get confused by the one in the background, its the picture I put on this forum I left it open lol):

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/Bb-F`iN-B/JAG3.jpg

Heres some links just of how many diff BIOS I have downloaded, and Jag Roms, still none work though :(

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/Bb-F`iN-B/JAG6.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/Bb-F`iN-B/JAG5.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/Bb-F`iN-B/JAG4.jpg

There is one Jag Rom that doesn't give me the error message, its the SCD file, and inside called (MK-4602) (E) (00) When I opened it, it didn't pop up with the error message, I thought it was going to work but it was just a black screen :s but for the rest of them I still get that error message.
I just tried it with Kega Fusion, and thought I was onto a winner seeing as Bios seemed to already be stored on there, and it didn't work. So I loaded my own bios up and it still doesnt work :/

--- Nevermind, I've got it working on Kega now, when I tried to open it on Kega it just said please change US BIOS, I left all the default already there BIOS there, and changed the US one to one I'd downloaded and it works fine. Strange, but im not complaining lol. Thanks for trying to help and readin all this though :D

Sega cd always works better on fusion, to be honest i really don't see the need for gens anymore after the new version of kega fusion came out (1.61), the compatibility of gens seems less than the new version of kega, i downloaded kameo's romset for every genesis rom and as of yet i've had every game run 100% perfect.

.rar files are archive files like .zip, you need a program to extract them, 7-zip is the freeware version and winrar the non free version, google them, extract the files and place them wherever.

Anyway you only needed the files from the second link, the first was if you went to other systems.

Also sorry for taking so long to reply, i lost track of this topic.

I looked at the walkthough though my emulator is Gens32 not normal Gens, if that makes a difference. Same thing happens, I cannot do anything to get the game to appear in my window.

Well first do not use gens for a sega cd game, use fusion, imo it's far too convoluted.

Second, unzip EVERYTHING, you shouldn't be using rar files at all.

Don't double post or bump old threads without reason, you have been warned, further action will require harsher peanalties.
, and fusion 361 beats gens into the ground.

Ok.

I googled and extracted the bin files for Sega CD.

The emulator knew what to do with them (GenS). Each box was filled automatically... one thing for the US, another for Europe, and a third for Japan. it knew where to look for the files to put in the boxes. (I took a screenshot to prove it, but my post count is too low to post an image).

I turned on Perfect Synchro.

I then downloaded and extracted the ISO for Lunar.

I went to open the ISO, and was given an error, saying my BIOS files were not configured correctly, and to go to Options>Directories and Files to correct.

What did I miss?
