:) Hello everyone, I have recently found out about a Government program called "Toilet to Tap". This program takes sewer waste and turns it into drinkable water. I don't know about any of you but from now on I will only be drinking bottled water. :)http://www.pbs.org/newshour/extra/features/us/jan-june08/water_2-11.html

:D Oh, and if you don't like to read here is a video I found. :D

Yeah I think this has been going on for years.
A student at some High School proved that the toilet water was cleaner than the fountain water at their school.

"Recycling water is not a new concept. There is evidence that some communities reused sewage water for irrigation more than 5,000 years ago."

Waste water treatment plants are older than just a matter of "years". If you guys were lucky you could have known about this since First Grade.

And definitely the fountain water is essentially murky with various chemicals, pretty much like saliva, but it's not necessarily because it was formally sewer water. One reason they probably don't teach you guys about this kind of thing early is because it's actually well processed, and they would rather hide this. :P

Read here http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23503485 for all the crap found in US drinking water supplies.

Key findings
Here are some of the key test results obtained by the AP:

Officials in Philadelphia said testing there discovered 56 pharmaceuticals or byproducts in treated drinking water, including medicines for pain, infection, high cholesterol, asthma, epilepsy, mental illness and heart problems. Sixty-three pharmaceuticals or byproducts were found in the city’s watersheds.
Anti-epileptic and anti-anxiety medications were detected in a portion of the treated drinking water for 18.5 million people in Southern California.
Researchers at the U.S. Geological Survey analyzed a Passaic Valley Water Commission drinking water treatment plant, which serves 850,000 people in Northern New Jersey, and found a metabolized angina medicine and the mood-stabilizing carbamazepine in drinking water.
A sex hormone was detected in San Francisco’s drinking water.
The drinking water for Washington, D.C., and surrounding areas tested positive for six pharmaceuticals.
Three medications, including an antibiotic, were found in drinking water supplied to Tucson, Ariz.

I'm sure that just means it is actually not treated as thoroughly in some states as in others. There's obviously more than just waste left over at times....

Anything facilitation to the sure public without a doubt that means: Stay away from. Man I know this girl who carries a water bottle on her and fills it up using the water fountains. Wisconsin is said to be very water rich and very water poor at the same time, and that is in part because of the treatment dedication.

Hey, water's always gonna be dirty. I mean animals live in there. At least the government is trying to clean it up a little. And bottled water can contain things you don't want to drink anyways. Make sure to read the labels, cause they use all kinds of toxins to "purify" water, no matter how you get it. So in the long run it does not matter what you drink. As long as you don't get typhoid, cholera, or dysentery.

NO. ****ING. ****.
Water goes in a cycle, it starts as water then condenses into the clouds, where then it rains. Where the rain goes can be anywhere, from into a river to down into our sewage pipes. If you JUST found that out you're a complete moron.

If there's a wastewater treatment plant or methods for over 5,000 years, there has to be waste water to treat. ;) It just gets processed and removed of **** :D very nicely you would be surprised

Actually it's been being done in my state in some areas for years.

We've been doing it for years.

Actually all water technically by now is some way or another sewer water, from years of sewage flow into open seas and lakes.

Most allready gets filtered, naturally, or by means of simple filtering (sand).

Most of the sewage here is pumped into lakes and rivers, with its natural order to break it down, and renew.

Not that damn fascinating.

I don't know about any of you but from now on I will only be drinking bottled water.

and even Bottled Water comes from the same godamn source.

it's not like somebody syntheticly raised and grew the water.

This has been going on for years. Being from New Orleans, I drink bottled water mostly, since most of the water in the region is toxic.
A while back on the Stephen Colbert Report, a guest introduced a water purifier that can distill clean water from waste. It may be a good idea for nations that desperately need water but the thought still gives me shudders.
heres a link to that segment:

Hopefully that wont be needed, and we won't need it unless we go through another water limitation problem like in the late 90's.

California/Nevada specially, regarding a literal limit to how much you can use per month.

Water is a precious resource, I'd be willing to drink recycled if need be. But I rather we implemented recycled water into things like reusable toilet flushing water, garden sprinkling water and other forms of wasteful water usage.

I'm okay with this. As long as we've cleaned it. Nature cleans water all the time. Look at the Amazon. I trust human ingenuity enough to service me with clean water when I visit the city, and enjoy well water when I live in the country.

i just found it funny a thread on drinking toilet water has almost lasted a year ^^

i wasn't exactly surprised when i first read this, somewhat, but if you think about it, do they just dump the water in the sewers? yes, but i'm sure us people who need water are willing to clean toilet water so they can live, i guess

I have no real problem with drinking recycled water, as long as its safe to drink overall and doesn't cause any problems for my body. I mean if you're really serious about your water you'd buy a water filter and use it then you'd steam distill that water too or clean it again some other way. Better yet why not break up the water Molecules and pick the dirt off them.

:) Hello everyone, I have recently found out about a Government program called "Toilet to Tap". This program takes sewer waste and turns it into drinkable water.
What a catchy name. Sounds like a teabagger came up with it.

To "turn" sewage into water is a misnomer. You just have to flood it with waste-eating bacteria, then boil it. The result is that nothing's really left behind but pure water. (For extra caution you can even distill it, since that collects pure water vapor and re-condenses it in a theoretically clean container.)

OP, out of curiosity, did you sleep through every science class you ever took, or are you just one of these hippy-dippy loons who believes in homeopathy? Water doesn't have any "memory" of what's been in it, and nature recycles water just the same way--though it takes longer in nature's case, because instead of boiling, it has to evaporate and rain back down again. :/

And I'm not sure where those of you who talk about having wells think that water comes from. Wells are just holes dug deep into the earth to collect what's called "groundwater". As the name implies, groundwater is water that collects in underground pockets between clumps of soil. And soil, as those of us who paid attention in school already know, is worm poop. So...bravo, guys. You're actually consuming more feces in every glass than people on city water.

I don't know about any of you but from now on I will only be drinking bottled water. :)

Uh, OP? I really hope I'm not the first person to tell you that bottled water is tap water--but even if I am, it is.

Yes, exactly. Unless you have a septic tank (which might sometimes overflow anyway), it's just going right into the ground.
